Delete your account
What a Silica account is
You do not need an account to use Silica. Your sources, credentials, favourites, history and settings are stored only on your device.
If you use Silica Premium, Silica creates a household for you on our account service. A household can include:
- an email address, if you gave one to sign in with a code or to recover Premium;
- your devices (up to 5 at a time) that use Premium, identified by a key created on each device;
- your purchases from the web (Stripe), Google Play or the Amazon Appstore; and
- a recovery code fingerprint (we never store the code itself).
Deleting your Silica account means deleting that household.
How to request deletion
Email [email protected] with the subject "Delete my Silica account". To find your household and check it is yours, we need one of these:
- send the email from the email address on your household, or
- include your recovery code, or
- include a purchase reference: the email address you used at checkout for a web purchase, your Google Play order number (it starts with
GPA.), or your Amazon order number.
If we cannot confirm the household is yours from what you send, we will reply and ask for one of the others. We will never ask for your IPTV provider details or passwords.
You can also start a request in the app: Settings → About → Delete my data.
Before you delete: cancel any subscription
Deleting your household turns Premium off on its devices, including a lifetime purchase. If you later restore a Google Play or Amazon purchase from the same store account, that store may ask us to turn Premium on again. That creates a new household record for that purchase. It does not restore the email address or device records we deleted.
We cancel a web (Stripe) subscription as part of the deletion, before we confirm it is done. Deleting the household does not cancel a Google Play or Amazon subscription. Cancel that in the store or you may still be charged.
What we delete, and what we keep
We act within one month of confirming your request, and email you when it is done.
| Data | What happens |
|---|---|
| Your household email address | Deleted |
| Sign-in codes and web sign-in sessions | Deleted |
| Recovery-code fingerprint | Deleted |
| Your devices and their keys | Deleted or revoked, so they can no longer use Premium |
| Records linking your devices and households together | Deleted |
| Amazon user identifier | Deleted with your household |
| Purchase records (Stripe, Google Play, Amazon) | Kept as described in the privacy policy: the date, amount, plan and the payment provider's transaction reference; for a Google Play purchase we also keep the purchase token, encrypted, for six years from the end of the accounting period of that purchase |
| Security audit records | Kept for 24 months after deletion without your email address, then deleted |
| Backups | Your data is removed from our encrypted backups within 30 days |
Stripe, Google and Amazon keep their own records of your payment under their own policies. We cannot delete those for you. To ask them, contact them directly.
Deleting the data on your device
To delete everything Silica stores on your device (your sources, credentials, favourites, history, settings and downloaded subtitles), uninstall Silica, or clear its storage in your device's settings (Settings → Apps → Silica → Storage → Clear storage; the exact wording varies by device). Do this on each device you use.
In this release, turning on crash reporting sends no reports. If you signed in to OpenSubtitles, signing out in Silica removes your OpenSubtitles login from the device.
